A SOLID FAMILY MUSICAL THAT

PLENTY OF SONG IN ITS HEART

Adapting a well-familiar and / or popular narrative from literature has been around for quite some time, with Hollywood finding interest in proven stories to translate into cinematic tales. Within this grouping selective “page to screen” film adaptations, the idea of children or kid’s literature has always been fertile ground for producing kid-friendly movies throughout the years….be it animated or live-action. With so many authors out there (both classic and newer titles), the choices are numerous and bountiful, especially in extrapolating some of the most popular children’s books, including both chapter books and picture books, that are ripe for a silver screen treatment. Such perfect examples of these have derive from some memorable motion picture iterations of beloved stories, including Robert C. O’Brien’s Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH (1982’s The Secret of NIMH), Munro Leaf’s The

A CUTE (YET MEDIOCRELY

SERVICEABLE) ROMANTIC COMEDY

With Hollywood studios investing money in big-budgeted tentpole features or in smaller scale artistic films (ones that are worthy of Oscar / award nominations), the subgenre of romantic comedies is left somewhere in the middle of those two extreme juggernaut film genres. Naturally, romantic comedies movies, which are both a subgenre to both the romance and comedy movie genres, have been around for quite some time; featuring a motion picture with light-hearted, humorous, and dramatic stories that are usually centered around romantic nuances (i.e., such as “true love” and are able to tackle problematic obstacles (be it family, friends, or some unseen challenge). Additionally, like many films from other genres, romantic comedies can range from a wild array of styles; pulling from other movie genres in order to try to appeal to a “wider” audience. Some classic romantic comedy film endeavors include 1940’s

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) Review

INTO THE SEA OF CHANGE….

In 2018, Marvel Studios released Black Panther, their 18th superhero film in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film, which starred Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, and Michael B. Jordan, follows the tale of T’Challa, the newly appointed Black Panther and new King of the kingdom of Wakanda, when he is challenged by Killmonger, who plans to abandon the country’s isolationist policies and begin a global revolution. Despite the film relying a bit heavy on its CGI visual effects a bit much, Black Panther was considered to be universally praise by both critics and moviegoers everywhere, including the film’s direction, culture representation, writing, costume designs, production quality, soundtrack, and acting (most important that of Boseman, Wright, and Jordan). Many fans have even considered the film to be the best in the MCU (up to that point),
